Max-9: low or co-witness

Night Fision makes two tritium sets for the Max-9. Both fit the Max-9 and the Max-9 OR. The co-witness sights are taller, so you see them through the window of a red dot on the OR model. The low sights sit closer to the slide, for shooting with iron sights only.

Mark series: set or rear sight

For the Mark 22/45 models, LPA makes complete adjustable sets. For the Mark series, there is also an adjustable rear sight alone, so you keep your front sight.

Ruger Mark generations

  • The adjustable rear sight fits the Mark I, Mark II, Mark III and Mark IV.
  • The sets for Target, Hunter and Competition fit the Mark III and Mark IV versions of these models.
  • The sets for Lite and Tactical fit the Mark III Lite and the Mark IV Lite and Tactical.

The P-series sets fit the P91, P92, P93, P94, P95 and P97. The P85 and P89 have their own sets.

How to zero an adjustable rear sight

Shoot a group at a fixed distance. Then move the rear sight in the direction you want the point of impact to move: to the right to move hits to the right, up to move hits up. Turn the screw a few clicks at a time and shoot again.

Sight picture

The end of each title names the sight picture. Fiber optic is bright in daylight. Tritium glows in the dark. Luminescent dots charge in light and glow for a while. White dots and white lines give contrast without glowing. Blank sights have a plain grooved surface.

A title with "front sight" or "rear sight" means a single part. Most other sights are complete sets of front and rear sight.

Installation

Most sights sit in a dovetail. You drift the old sight out and the new one in with a sight pusher or a punch. See Installation tools.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the sights on my Ruger at home?

Yes, with a sight pusher or a punch. Drift the old sight out of the dovetail and push the new one in. If you do not have the tool, a gunsmith can do it for you. See Installation tools.

Which sights should I choose for my Ruger?

It depends on how you shoot:

  • You use a red dot: co-witness sights. They are tall enough to see through the red dot window.
  • You shoot with iron sights only: low sights or standard sights.
  • You want to zero for your ammunition or shoot competition: adjustable sights. You set windage and elevation with screws.
  • You shoot in poor light: tritium. It glows in the dark without charging.
  • You shoot in daylight, at the range or in competition: fiber optic.

Low or co-witness sights for my Max-9 OR?

Co-witness sights if you use a red dot. Low sights if you shoot with iron sights only.
