Sights for Browning models

(14 products)

This collection contains iron sights for the Browning Hi-Power. All sights are LPA adjustable sights, machined from steel in Italy. On the Hi-Power, the rear dovetail width decides which sights fit.

Two rear dovetail widths

  • .275" (about 7.0 mm): the narrower dovetail of the classic Hi-Power Vigilante (early models). These sights include a staked (tenon) front sight.
  • .375" (about 9.5 mm): the modern dovetail of the Vigilante, Mark III, Practical, HP40 and Sport. These sights fit models with a factory dovetail-mounted front sight.

Measure the rear dovetail of your Hi-Power or check its model before you order.

Sets and rear sights

You can choose complete adjustable sights or only an adjustable rear sight. Sight pictures are blank, white dots, white lines and fiber optic. One version has fiber optic only in the front, another in the front and rear.

Fiber optic front only or front and rear

The adjustable sights for the modern dovetail come with fiber optic in two versions. With fiber optic only in the front, the bright front sight stands out against a plain rear sight. With fiber optic in the front and the rear, you line up three bright points.

Adjustable sights

All Hi-Power sights here are adjustable for windage and elevation with screws. You can zero them for your load without changing parts.

Which Hi-Power do you have

The Hi-Power has been made in several generations. The early Vigilante models have a narrow .275" (about 7.0 mm) rear dovetail and a front sight fixed to the slide by a tenon. The sets for these models include a staked front sight. A staked front sight is riveted into the slide. Fitting it usually needs a gunsmith. The later Vigilante, the Mark III, the Practical, the HP40 and the Sport have a wider .375" (about 9.5 mm) rear dovetail. The Vigilante, Mark III, Practical and HP40 also have a front sight in a dovetail, which you drift out and in like the rear sight.

How to measure the dovetail

Measure the width of the rear sight across its base with a caliper. About 7.0 mm (.275") means the early dovetail. About 9.5 mm (.375") means the modern one. If you are not sure, compare your slide with the photos on the product page. Then choose a set or a rear sight for that width.

Rear sight only

The adjustable rear sight alone is available for both dovetails, in blank, white dots or white lines. You keep the factory front sight.

How to zero an adjustable rear sight

Shoot a group at a fixed distance. Then move the rear sight in the direction you want the point of impact to move: to the right to move hits to the right, up to move hits up. Turn the screw a few clicks at a time and shoot again.

Installation

Most sights sit in a dovetail. You drift the old sight out and the new one in with a sight pusher or a punch. See Installation tools.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the sights on my Hi-Power at home?

Yes, with a sight pusher or a punch. Drift the old sight out of the dovetail and push the new one in. If you do not have the tool, a gunsmith can do it for you. See Installation tools.

Which sights should I choose for my Hi-Power?

It depends on how you shoot:

  • You want to zero for your ammunition or shoot competition: adjustable sights. You set windage and elevation with screws.
  • You shoot in daylight, at the range or in competition: fiber optic.

Which sights fit my Hi-Power?

It depends on the rear dovetail. The early Vigilante has a .275" (about 7.0 mm) dovetail. The later Vigilante, Mark III, Practical, HP40 and Sport have .375" (about 9.5 mm). Measure the width of your rear sight and choose the sights for it.
