This collection contains accessories for red dot sights: covers, screws, shims and installation tools.
Covers
-
Rubber covers from Holosun and Shield Sights protect the lens during storage. Shield covers also reduce battery drain when the red dot is not in use.
-
Hard rain covers from Eemann Tech protect against damage and vertical rain. They exist for the Holosun 407Comp, 507Comp and 510C, Trijicon SRO, C-More RTS2 and RTS3, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro and Shield RMSx.
-
Toni System ZR covers, some with integrated backup sights.
Each cover fits only the models named in its title. See Red dot covers.
Which cover to choose
A rubber cover is soft. You pull it over the red dot when you store the gun. You take it off before you shoot. A hard rain cover is made of plastic. It attaches from the front and clicks into place. It protects the red dot from knocks and from rain falling from above. Eemann Tech prints its hard covers in 3D for an exact fit. For the Holosun 510C there are also extended covers and a version with a raiser plate.
The Toni System covers for the ZR red dots come in several versions. One is a plain cover for the new battery tray. One has a backup rear sight. Two have backup front and rear sights, in blank or fiber optic. With the cover on, you can still aim with the backup sights.
Screws
Replacement screws in sets of 3 come in common threads such as 4-40, 6-32, 6-40, 6-48, M3, M3.5 and M4, with T10 heads. Model-specific screws exist for some plates and mounts. See Red dot screws.
How to read a screw title
The title gives the thread, the length and the head. In "6-32 x 0.374" [T10]", 6-32 is the thread, 0.374" is the length and T10 is the Torx bit size. Threads such as 4-40, 6-32, 6-40 and 6-48 are imperial. M3, M3.5 and M4 are metric. A screw that is too long can bottom out in the hole before it clamps the red dot. A screw that is too short holds only a few threads.
Model-specific screw sets exist too. CZ makes screws for its Optics Ready plates and Holosun for its K-series footprint. Shield Sights makes sets for its Glock MOS mount, RMR adapter plate, Walther mounts and mini sights. There are also Shield sets for the Sig P320, the Sig P365 X and XL and the S&W M&P Shield Plus Optics Ready plates.
Shims
A 1° shim installs between the mount and the red dot. It corrects the point of impact when the slide angle or mounting tolerance shifts it. Shims exist for RMR, RMSc, K-series and Docter footprints. See Red dot shims.
Installation tools
-
Loctite threadlocker (0.5 ml): a drop on each screw stops it from loosening under recoil.
-
Vector Optics torque screwdriver: adjustable from 1.1 to 6.8 Nm (10 to 60 in-lbs), with 10 bits including T10. Use the torque given by the maker of your red dot or plate.
-
Impact Machine installation kit: a T10 Torx bit, blue 243 Loctite and pipe cleaners for cleaning the mounting holes.
-
Toni System installation tool: helps you push a red dot mount into the dovetail at a straight 90° angle.
-
Sight pushers and punches: the Real Avid rear sight pusher and the Eemann Tech sight pushing tool. For punches there is the Angry Bear sight drift punch and the Eemann Tech gunsmith's punch set (1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 mm). You need these tools to remove the rear sight before you install a dovetail mount.
See Installation tools.
For sight pushers, threadlocker and torque screwdrivers, see Installation tools.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need threadlocker?
Yes. Put a drop on every screw of the plate and the red dot. Without it, the screws can loosen under recoil.
Does a cover for the 507C fit the 507Comp?
No. Each cover fits only the models named in its title. The 407Comp and 507Comp have their own covers.
Which screws do I need?
The same thread and length as your original screws. The title of each screw set gives both, for example 6-32 x 0.374".
